Monday 9th May:

The Men & Ladies held their first Charity event of the season today.

The weather was very kind again and well done to all our members and friends who participated

in a smashing morning of bowls.

Our lucky dip games and lunch raised over £300 to be split between our nominated charities

Children's Hospice South West & The Beacon Hub

Many thanks to Captains Julia & Rod for organising the morning, aided by Jenny B & Dave L,

and to Sue Tassell, along with her band of helpers, Marilyn, May, Irene and Val, for the

lunchtime hot-dogs and fabulous cakes.

Saturday 16th April:

Portishead Men got their season underway on the opening day with the traditional Captain v Vice-Captain match. This fixture is thinly disguised as a match but is, in reality, an excuse to get together again, flex the long unused muscles, blow away the cobwebs and enjoy the delight that is outdoor bowls. The weather was just right and a good time was had by all, but there has to be a winner, and this year it was the Vice-Captain's team that were victorious. Well done them!

Tuesday 19th April:

Portishead played their first actual match this afternoon, a Mixed Friendly, at home, against Ardagh. It's

always a pleasure to welcome Ardagh to our Club and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the game. The weather nearly held off and there was just a little light rain for the final few ends. The result wasn't important (from which you will gather we didn't win) and our thanks go to Ardagh for making the afternoon so enjoyable.

We will seek revenge at the end of May in the return fixture.

Saturday 30th April:

Perfect weather arrived for the first of our Open Days!

We welcomed an amazing number of people trying out bowls for the first time on our wonderful greens.

There were quite a few couples as well as singles eager to try their hand and, although most of them had

never bowled before, by the end of the session, they were nearly all getting the hang of it!
